Estate Washer Lid Switch Bypass

A simple bypass for the first type of lid switch is to simply jam a piece of wood into the switch causing it to activate the solenoid.

Washing machines have a lid sensor for safety purposes and proper functioning. Lift up the top and locate the lid switch. This switch performs the same function but the lid must be locked in place for the machine to wash. When your washer will not operate you need to troubleshoot the lid switch before investigating other possible causes.

However lid lock switches are generally magnetic and must be bypassed differently. But you can bypass the wiring and trick the washer into running. The lid switch assembly prevents the washer from spinning when the lid is open. The best way to test the lid switch is with a volt ohm meter.

Unplug the washer from the wall outlet. If you do not have a volt ohm meter you can bypass the lid switch. To determine if the lid switch assembly is defective. If the lid switch assembly fails the washer will not spin.

Insert a putty knife between the front cabinet and top of the washing machine approximately 6 inches from each side to release the spring.
